Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Pnyx collects, why, and what you can do about it. Pnyx is operated by Pnyx LLC, a [STATE] limited liability company. We've kept it short and plain, and we've written it to match what the software actually does.
1. What we collect
- When you register: a username, an email address, a password (stored only as a secure hash), and your date of birth (used to check the age requirement). You can optionally add your state and political party.
- From your activity: your poll votes, bill reactions and bookmarks, and the messages you post in the Agora.
- Your address, only briefly: if you choose to add a street address to see your representatives and ballot, we send it once to a government geocoder to work out your districts, then discard the street address — we keep only the derived districts, and your address is never shown to other users.
2. What we do NOT collect
- Phone numbers.
- Your real name, unless you choose to enter one.
- Government IDs.
- Precise or continuous location.
- Payment card details — Pnyx does not process payments.
3. Cookies and on-device storage
Pnyx does not use tracking cookies. To keep you signed in and remember your preferences, we store a sign-in token, your theme choice, and a few display settings in your browser's local storage on your own device. Clearing your browser storage signs you out.
4. Analytics and tracking
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or behavioral profiling. We don't follow you around the web.
5. How we use your information
- To show you personalized poll results, your representatives, and your brief.
- To keep the platform fair — for example, preventing duplicate voting.
- To compute aggregate, anonymous breakdowns (like how a poll split overall).
- To send account email you'd expect, such as a password-reset link.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell or license your personal data, and we do not run any research-export program. We share data only with the service providers needed to run Pnyx — for example, an email delivery provider when we send you an account email. You can download your own activity data at any time from your account.
7. Your rights
- Access: download your own data from your account.
- Deletion: delete your account (Account settings, password-confirmed). Your personal data is removed; your public Agora messages are anonymized rather than deleted so other people's conversations stay intact.
- Correction: update your profile information at any time.
8. Children
Pnyx is not intended for anyone under 13, and we ask for a date of birth at sign-up to enforce that. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we'll update the version above and notify you in the app. [State-specific disclosures — for example, for California, Colorado, or Virginia residents — are for attorney review before launch.]
